Cincinnati Sports Club, Developed by Mark Hauser, Celebrates 30 Years

A well-equipped, efficiently operated health club plays a key role in the larger community. In addition to providing fitness facilities, the center ideally offers a venue in which health-conscious members can socialize while enjoying their workouts.

The Cincinnati Sports Club Structure

The “hybrid” Cincinnati Sports Club fulfills this role while also offering a dedicated wellness center. An onsite social club features a lively community events calendar. In addition, the Club partners with Cincinnati businesses and other organizations to provide value-added services to members.

The Cincinnati Sports Club is located on a 16-acre campus on the city’s East Side. The expansive complex contains 400,000 of overall space with 110,000 square feet of indoor space. The Cincinnati Sports Club is an active member of the International Health, Racquet and SportsClub Association.

In addition, the multifaceted venue has a longstanding partnership with the Cincinnati Reds baseball team. The Cincinnati Sports Club has been designated as the team’s primary training facility.

Cincinnati Sports Club Fitness Facilities

The expansive Cincinnati Sports Club spans 16 acres and offers multiple indoor and outdoor exercise platforms. Indoors, high-energy or quiet fitness areas cater to members’ varied needs. Multiple pools cater to members’ varied aquatic exercise preferences.

Indoor Fitness Venues

Qualified trainers lead 100+ free group fitness classes in several fitness studios. Popular fitness genres include spinning, dance fusion, circuit, and high-intensity interval training (or HIIT). Members also enjoy yoga, barre, and Pilates Reformer Training sessions.

Walkers, joggers, and runners appreciate the indoor 1/5-mile track. Members no longer need to worry about exercising outdoors in unpleasant weather.

Racquet sports players also have well-equipped indoor venues in which to enjoy their favorite sport. Squash, tennis, racquetball, and pickleball courts see extensive use. In addition, golfers who want to improve their game can spend some time in the high-tech PGA indoor golf simulator.

Basketball aficionados gravitate to the full-sized (NCAA-sized) and small basketball gyms. Several available courts invite multiple pickup games.

Lap swimmers, water aerobics fans, and other aquatics enthusiasts can exercise in two indoor pools. An indoor warm-water therapy pool also accommodates instructional classes.

Outdoor Fitness Venues

Outdoors, two outdoor pools, a splash pad, and a zero-entry baby pool accommodate members of all ages. Members can also enjoy invigorating open-air workouts in the spacious outdoor exercise facility.

Multi-Purpose Synthetic Turf Field

In April 2021, the Cincinnati Sports Club completed installation of Ohio’s first sports and recreation synthetic turf field enhanced by T°Cool® technology. This evaporative cooling technique makes the field cooler and thus safer to use.

Members and guests can enjoy exercise classes, badminton, croquet, volleyball, and yoga on the spacious 40-yard synthetic turf field. Social events such as wine tastings, birthday parties, and food truck visits are also in the works. At the same time, attendees can easily comply with all pandemic-related health guidelines.

Health and Wellness Programs

To provide members with health and wellness services, Cincinnati Sports Club has partnered with Cincinnati-based TriHealth with Beacon Orthopaedics. The engaging health and wellness calendar features a well-rounded menu of wellness topics. Free health screenings and conversations with TriHealth’s experts have also been well received.

Complementary Services

The Club also offers a comprehensive HMR Weight Management Program along with nutritional counseling. An in-house Wellness Clinician offers therapeutic physical therapy services. Members can also book appointments with a licensed massage therapist and acupuncturist. Finally, an onsite spa and salon cater to members’ hair, nail, and other aesthetic needs.

Lively Social Programs

Cincinnati Sports Club members can also take advantage of an active social and special events calendar. The adults-only pool, Tuesday wine tastings led by the Club’s wine steward, and Friday Happy Hours are regular activities. Members are also invited to book a private room for a meeting or party. Full catering services are available upon request.

The Club also offers over 45 annual social get-togethers. Each event features locally sourced food along with live music.

COVID-19 Pandemic Support Programs

In winter 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic’s rapid spread led to widespread business closures and government-imposed lockdowns. With many people told to stay home for an extended period, social isolation and accompanying mental stress took their toll.

The Cincinnati Sports Club’s Board of Directors quickly saw the magnitude of the problem. With Mark Hauser’s constructive input, and advice from area professionals, the Club formulated a timely response. Everyone agreed on the overarching goal: to help uplift Cincinnati residents’ physical and mental health during this difficult time.

Toward that end, TriHealth and the Cincinnati Sports Club sponsored a Winter 2021 “Manage Your Health” series. Each free session was led by a TriHealth professional and was open to everyone in the community. Topics included COVID-19 fatigue, a COVID-19 vaccine Q&A session, and a discussion on constructive conflict management techniques.

Environmental Stewardship Strategies

The Cincinnati Sports Club practices environmental stewardship in several aspects of its operations. In fact, the facility’s building was constructed with energy conservation practices in mind. The exterior lights save electricity by utilizing daylight, and the roof includes skylights that illuminate the Club’s interior with natural sunlight.

Elsewhere in the Club’s outdoor setting, a colorful garden grows healthy vegetables for the Market Café’s meals. During the summer, the splash pad utilizes recycled water, and the outdoor pool decreases chlorine use via a special stabilizer.

Inside the Club, two saltwater pools also reduce chlorine and chemical cost and upkeep. One pool utilizes a high-efficiency heater. Finally, the private changing rooms’ tile is fabricated from recycled materials.

The Cincinnati Sports Club is also actively involved in several recycling programs. Besides recycling paper and cardboard, the facility presses old towels into maintenance use and donates slightly worn towels to varied charities.

The Club’s Wide-Ranging Appeal

The Cincinnati Sports Club has become a valued part of the city’s East Side community. The Club’s well-equipped indoor and outdoor exercise venues, and its complementary health, wellness, and social programs, broaden the facility’s appeal to a large health-conscious population.

Mark Hauser and other Board members, along with the Cincinnati Sports Club’s management, continue to evaluate new facilities and ancillary services. Their overall goal: to continuously improve health-related services to the Club’s valued members.

Mark Hauser’s Role in the Club’s Development

The well-respected Cincinnati Sports Club has been an active part of the Cincinnati East Side since 1990. Mark Hauser, a Cincinnati native who became a successful financial services industry executive, played a key role in the complex’s creation.

Together with a business partner, Hauser developed this multi-function facility that has become a pillar of the Cincinnati community. Currently, Mark Hauser is one of three Club owners, and he serves on the Board of Directors.

As the son of retired Los Angeles Rams football standout Art Hauser, Mark Hauser has enjoyed a lifetime association with sports. He graduated from the all-boys St. Xavier High School before attending Miami University of Ohio. While earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration (finance concentration), Hauser was an active member of the Sigma Nu undergraduate fraternity.

Throughout Mark Hauser’s financial services industry career, he has been involved in several successful real estate development efforts. Hauser played a key role in funding acquisition and development management for the Cincinnati Sports Club, one of his most successful ventures.
